Research at CPDM
CPDM pioneered design research
in India to make India self-reliant in terms of design knowledge, and to develop
capability to pursue basic research in Engineering design and Product Design.
Equipped with a strong faculty, a well-groomed library and an array of
sophisticated facilities, CPDM has a congenial working atmosphere to develop
future leaders in the field of design.
Research students are selected thorough a stringent selection procedure
comprising of a written exam and an extensive interview, in order to determine
their individual ability and motivation. A research student can select a
research topic from a gamut of research area embracing design synthesis, design
simulation and development of algorithms/ methodology.
Ph.D. at IISc generally requires three and half years of extensive in-depth
research. A Ph.D. student is expected to contribute a major break through in
design philosophy or understanding of design. M.Sc. is generally a two years
research course. M.Sc.( Engg.) students are required to enrol more number of
courses compared to Ph.D. students. M.Sc.( Engg.) course is a perfect blend of
course work and research, thus providing them with freedom to take up either
doctoral research or to be a part of a company where both research and general
design are essential.
There are several labs with esteemed faculty adorned with state of the art
facilities- providing an appropriate environment for contributing to the society
by developing design knowledge.
